Tip 1: Repeating lifetime income (residual income)

How to get paid over 100 times for 1 sale

If you know where to look (this website!) you can join affiliate schemes where you get paid over and over again for making just 1 sale. This type of income is called residual (or passive) income.

A lifetime of income example:

Compare the commission payable for the sale of a mobile phone under two different affiliate plans.

1) Standard affiliate: Total income £20-£25 one off payment.

2) Residual income affiliate: Initial payment £10 plus 5% recurring commission. Typical lifespan of a mobile phone customer, 20 months. Total income: £40

In this example, you would earn 100% more money, for exactly the same sale.

Advantages of residual income:

1) Protection
If your sales drop (search engines positions change, competition gets stronger, pay per click bids get too high, you become ill), your income is guaranteed for months or even years to come.

2) More Income
Typically you will earn more (sometimes far more) overall income per sale with residual income scheme compared to standard affiliate schemes.

3) Additional sales
With residual income plans, the customer is often tracked as "your customer" and some businesses will give you residual income on any other products later purchased by that customer.

4) Leveraged income
A lot of residual income plans also offer the chance to leverage income by earning additional revenues from customer purchases from other affiliates you introduce.

Note: You will not find residual income plans being offered by affiliate networks such as UKAffiliates, Tradedoubler, AWin, CJ etc as they cannot track repeat billings of a customer. You will only be able to get residual income from the original retailer. Most schemes offering lifetime payments require a small set up fee as they are having to do all the processing themselves rather than an affiliate network manager, but this is easily outweighed by the increased income from lifetime customers.
